Week 2 is in the books and we are entering our last week. Here is how week 2 progressed:
ADVANCED STUDIO ART
This week in Advanced Studio Art, the students close out their drawing unit and begin to explore painting. We begin our painting unit by mixing colors from the color wheel. We will mix primary, warm, cool and monochromatic (one color plus black and white) color plans. Through this process , the students discover just how many ranges of colors an artist is able to create. We will explore watercolor and acrylic techniques and paint self-portraits and animals. Friday June 29, 2018 we will have an art presentation. A letter will go home this week inviting family and friends to our show. We hope you can come!
MARVELOUS MOSAICS
Marvelous Mosaics had a fabulous week creating flower vases and working on sea life and water for the final exhibit installation.
Enjoy our reflections!
Students were encouraged to create visual process notes. One of our experts create the attached slides. It's all about thinking and creating and enjoying the process. Enjoy our reflections!
MOVED TO MOVE
The dancers in Moved to Move have been working very hard on finishing their first of two pieces to be performed this FRIDAY! Every day is started with a modern technique warm-up, followed by across-the-floor combinations that have grown in complexity each week. About half of our time together each day is spent working on choreography. Last week, they not only finished learning, but began perfecting their movements in a dance choreographed by me. This week, we will continue to clean that dance while also beginning a new dance, choreographed by the dancers in small groups. They are thrilled to be able to show the audience what they are capable of creating!
NOW @ WORK
Now@Work Majors began work on their picture books in the style of Eric Carlle, Lois Ehlert and/or Leo Lionni. Majors did a collage based on Picasso's Double Face. Minors did a collage called Sunrise and an Op Art based on their initials. Week 3 culminates with Majors finishing their books and a portfolio review. Minors will do a Royal Portrait in collage and "Becoming Matisse.

POWER GUITAR
The students of Power Guitar continue honing their chops on such surf classics as Miserlou and Surf City. This week after spending time taking songs apart to analyze them we begin putting them back together and add drums to the mix to lay the foundation for our performance on Friday.
Surf's Up!
Press Start! students were very busy the second week of the SMAART program! We finished choreographing, blocking and singing through the entire show last week. We are very excited for you to see the kids' hard work this Thursday night at 6:30pm in the Black Box!
ROCKIN' PAPER SCISSORS
This last week we explored different techniques such as painting with tissue paper and decoupage. We are wrapping up our final projects and preparing for the big art show Friday! We can't wait to share what we have learned and created with the parents.
SMAART SINGERS
Our show is beginning to gel! Singers are getting as excited as we teachers are. We hope your Singer brought home a neon green sheet with performance information for Friday. Each child needs a flashlight, sponge, a white cloth (tablecloth, piece of white fabric, old sheet, etc.) – Goodwill is a good resource – a shell of some kind, close-toed shoes, and black shorts, skirt, or skort. We will rehearse at 8:45 Friday morning on the stage, and our performance is at 10am. Thank you for allowing us to work with your child at camp. It has been a joy and a delight!
STOMP DOWN SOUTH
Week two was terrific! We found our groove and busily created sections for our final performance. We are "playing" buckets, brooms, basketballs and more!! You won't want to miss our stompin' good show on Friday!
WIND & PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE
The SMAART Winds and Percussion have been working hard on a variety of musical styles. The students have been playing music from movies, classic wind ensemble repertoire and modern pop tunes. Come and enjoy their performance at 6:30pm this Thursday!
